I have a coming 3 year old mare that I am just getting started under saddle.  Her sire was a state champion reiner and barrel racer so hopefully she inherited some of his talent.  I am new to reining so am hoping that there are some reiners that will be using this forum so that I can learn some things!

Hi,
I'm probably a reining wannabe, an old rodeo cowgirl, too old for some of the hard stuff and now converting over to some easier stuff. Not that good reining is "easy", but it's a darned sight easier than roping a steer at my age. Anyway, in case you're not a member, or are not hooked up with the website of the National Reining Horse Association, they have some great programs, clinics, and shows, and some online help, too. Check out their show schedule here on eNeigh on the "Horse Shows" button (on the NRHA Show and Clinic Link) and see if you can find an event near you so you can hook up with some local folks who are reiners. Also, eNeigh's trainer Ed Dabney will be doing a lot of colt starting work here via live webcam as I understand it, and then more advanced work later on. I've always thought the best reining horse was a horse that was started right from the beginning, easy on the mouth, light on the hands from the very start. Some horses make great reining horses and some don't and it's good to know the difference.  I'm really looking foward to this too.  good Luck!  Susieque

I'm one of those "old girls" also.   Just bought a Skipper W reining , palomino stallion, and I've made arrangements to work with a gal that has been in reining for a long time, and breeds some fabulous reiners.   I'm going to start on my stallion this spring, and work my way into the 'green as grass' reiners.    I used to show reining years ago (back in the 70's), but the style of reining has changed, and of course now there is about 8 patterns or more to learn, instead of the 3 I knew!   Wish me luck!   I'm also looking forward to Ed Dabney's input into the new site.  Deb Johnson

Hi Deb,  I hope you post about what/how you are doing when you start working with your stallion. I need to get going with Smoke and figure out how to proceed with training.
