Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to post a link to the congressional bill: HR503, to forbid transport, etc of any horse intended for human consumption of horse meat...This really goes right to the source of information. If anyone has a CURRENT UPDATE on the status of new efforts to change this law, would you please post it here?

Here is the link to the actual law:

 http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d109:h.r.00503

Thanks, Susieque

Thanks for posting that article and the link to Congressional leadership. We all need to become involved in any decisions being made at the government level with respect to the equine industry. These decisions are being made, in most part, with people who have no understanding of our industry. Get involved, whichever side of this hot issue you are on, otherwise the decisions will be made without us.

I would like to take a poll to see where folks stand on this issue, and in particular, IF you have actually READ the BILL, how do you think it is written?

Thanks, Scott Huh?

I think, this law protect the the shipping, transporting, moving, delivering, receiving, possessing, purchasing, selling, or donation of horses and other equines to be slaughtered for human consumption, and for other purposes. Am I right?

http://data.opi.mt.gov/bills/2009/billpdf/HB0418.pdf

Hello All,

The above link is to the ACTUAL Montana House Bill (HB) 418 which was passed into law when Governor Brian Schweitzer failed to act upon his veto of certain parts of the law. It had passed the House narrowly, he vetoed, he went to the Senate and passed narrowly, went back to the Governor and he did not take action, so it passed.

I have tried to find who the potential investors in such a Montana facility are, but can't find out who they are, or where they intend on building a facility. Other states are setting up votes in various legislatures to follow Montana.

I wanted to provide the actual bill because many rumors are floating around. You can judge for yourselves how you feel about this, I am just providing the factual Bill itself.
